loading... website is owned by Equifax. Equifax has a long history. It was founded in 1899. It is also one of the largest credit reporting agency in the country. Due to its long association with this industry, Equifax is now reported to have data on more than 400 million credit holders. This is a mind-boggling number and it cannot be matched by any other service in the industry. Also, Equifax operates in over 15 countries and has a workforce of over 7000 people. In addition to credit monitoring, Equifax also works in the related fields of business credit intelligence, portfolio management, decisioning technology, fraud detection, marketing tools and much more.

The Good

As mentioned above, the parent company of website is Equifax, which has been in this business for more than hundred years. Due to its long number of years in this service, the service provided is excellent.

The identity protection product by Equifax known as ID patrol provides a load of protection features to its customers. This product includes scans of the Internet and provides any potential identity theft and fraud alerts to its subscribers.

ID patrol also has good relationship with other credit bureaus and is therefore able to provide complete credit monitoring for their subscribers which is very useful for identity theft protection.

ID patrol also provides identity theft insurance to their subscribers. It is limited to an amount of $1 million. The insurance is provided by Chartis. In the unfortunate event of identity theft, this amount will come handy to the subscribers.

ID patrol has been active in the market for the last five years and therefore has equivalent experience to most of their peers in the industry.

The Bad

ID patrol has a lot of good things going for it but it lacks a couple of features as part of its basic package.

ID patrol does not provide any identity restoration services to its subscribers. In the unfortunate incident of identity theft, a subscriber will be left in lurch and will have to do everything on their own to restore their identity. Unlike some of the other services, ID patrol does not provide any hands-on team to help the victim of identity theft. Identity restoration service is now offered by most of the companies in this field as part of their basic package. Therefore, ID patrol lags behind other companies in this aspect.

The basic package of ID patrol costs $17 to a subscriber, which is very high considering the features offered in their service. Most of the top-notch services in the field provide a lot more features for under $15.

The Bottom Line

ID patrol is a reasonable product for the average consumer. They have a lot of positives but they lack a lot of features for the price they charge. Identity restoration is a basic service which should have been part of the basic package. Also, it is unlikely that a customer will be able to talk to a real human being, if needed.

If you are looking for a identity theft protection service, which which covers all the bases in the field of protection as well as restoration, you are better off looking at other competitors. Also, the interface of their website needs serious upheavel. It is not user friendly in the current format.
